The volume brings together fifty contributions from across the globe, from Greece, Europe, U.S.A. and Japan, hoping that it shall provide researchers and friends of tales with a worthwhile handbook. It was from such a viewpoint that many of the texts included were selected among those originally presented at the International Conference on The Brothers Grimm and the Folktale, which took place in Athens in 2012. Several others were added afterwards, whether in Greek or in English, i.e. because of their introductory qualities and their transnational perspective. It must also be noted that all non-Greek experts on tales whose work is presented in the volume are in fact introduced for the first time in Greek bibliography.
The volume, despite the editors’ insistent, if not stubborn, efforts in coordinating and undertaking several tasks during the various stages of its preparation, would have never materialized without the knowledge, the support and the enthusiasm that too many people supplied it with. Just like tales themselves, this edition functioned as a “workshop” of collaboration and interactivity.
The volume aims to provide a modern Companion for an Interdisciplinary study of folk and fairy tales for all those who “live” this genre, as researchers, teachers, students, as well as for the general readership.
